eXtremeReviews.net :: 400W iXtrema Pro PSU

SilenX 400W iXtrema Pro PSU

With computer enthusiasts adding more and more components to their computer system, they often forget to upgrade their PSU (Power Supply Unit). As the number of components in a system increases, obviously the amount of voltage needed increases. A PSU can only provide a limited amount of power, so in order to provide enough to all of your components, a good quality PSU is a must. That is why today we will be examining the SilenX Pro iXtrema PSU. This PSU supplies 400 watts of power yet creates less than 14dBA of noise.

Features:

∙ 2 x SATA Power Connectors
∙ Passive PFC Circuit
∙ High Quality Construction
∙ Extremely Low Noise <14 dBA Fan
∙ Advanced Power Load Based Fan Control Circuitry
∙ 400 Watt Output
∙ Meets ATX 2.10 Specs
∙ UL, CE, FCC Compliant
∙ AMD Supported
∙ P4 Supported
∙ 100K Hours @ 25C MTBF
∙ 80mm Hypro Bearing Exhaust Fan
∙ Silicone Vibration Dampening Fan Mounts
∙ Short-Circuit Protection on Outputs

As more and more manufacturers begin to create SATA (Serial ATA) hard drives, you will need adapters in order to power them, due to the fact that they don’t use the conventional molex connections. There are two common types of PFC (Power Factor Correction) found on power supplies, the Active and Passive PFC. This PSU implements Passive PFC which is the most common type, it uses a capacitive filter at the AC input to correct poor power input, rather than using a circuit which is implemented in Active PFC power supplies. High quality construction is key to a solid and long lasting power supply. Less then 14 dBA of fan noise from this power supply, it is indeed very quiet. The fan is controlled based upon the power load of the PSU; if there is a large load, the fan will spin faster than when the PSU has a low load. 400 watts of power is nothing outstanding, neither is it anything poor in today’s standards, 400 watts of power should be enough to handle most computers on the market. Meeting ATX specifications are key to having a PSU compatible with the rest of your components and case, and this PSU meets ATX 2.10 specifications. The SilenX Pro iXtrema PSU meets UL, CD, and FCC compliancy. This PSU also offers full support for AMD based systems as well as Intel Pentium 4 processors. MTBF stands for Mean Time Between Failures, and this PSU happens to have a MTBF of 100,000 hours (11.4 years) at 25 °C. The internal parts in PSUs can often get roasting hot, so there is an 80mm Hypro bearing exhaust fan to blow the heat out of the rear of your computer. The fan mounts for the PSU have been coated in silicone vibration dampening to try to eliminate some possible noise. Short-Circuit Protection on Outputs is very useful to prevent possible short-circuiting of your power supply and other computer components.
