eXtremeReviews.net :: Taurus CX Series Power Supplies

CoolMax Taurus CX Series Power Supplies

Introduction:

Power supplies are very important to your computer system and are commonly overlooked. They are important because they convert the mains AC current to a lower voltage DC in order to power all of your computer components. Recently I had the chance to look at two power supplies from the CoolMax Taurus CX series. These power supplies are the CX-300 and CX-450B. The only differences between these two power supplies are their color and their wattages. The CX-300 has a maximum output of 300 Watts whilst the CX-450B outputs maximum of 420 Watts.

Features:

The power supplies in the Taurus CX Series feature the following:

  • Full range input voltage
  • Active power factor correction
  • Surge current protection
  • Input transient voltage protection
  • Over voltage protection
  • Over load protection
  • Short circuit protection
  • Low noise design
  • 12cm fan
  • Serial ATA 150 ready
  • Intel and AMD compliant
  • Speed fan control switch
Short circuit protection will allow the power supply to withstand a continuous short circuit to the output without any damage. Overload protection is a feature that allows the power supply to latch in a state of shutdown when the total load exceeds 130%-160% of the maximum output current. The 12cm fan is located at the bottom of the power supply unit. This 12cm fan will take air from inside the case, cool off the power supply components, and then exhaust the air out of the rear. These power supplies are also Serial ATA 150 ready, which means that you can attach SATA hard drives to them.
